Changes to Accounts Logins

Understanding Shopify's New Customer Account System

A New & Improved Login Experience
Shopify, the platform that powers our Consumables.co.nz website, is transitioning from its legacy customer account system to a modern customer account experience.
This upgrade improves account security, simplifies the login process, and provides a cleaner experience when accessing your orders and account information.
If you've previously created an account with us, you may notice some changes the next time you sign in. This guide explains what is changing, why it's happening, and what you can expect.

What Are Legacy Customer Accounts?
Legacy customer accounts were Shopify's original account system where customers signed in using:
- Email address
- Password created during registration
Customers could then access their order history, saved addresses, and account information using those credentials.
While this system has served our store well since moving to Shopify in 2022, Shopify has now introduced a newer account platform that offers improved security and a simpler login experience that we will be moving to.
What Is the New Shopify Account System?
The new Shopify customer account system replaces traditional passwords with secure email verification.
| Login Steps | |
| Enter Your Email | Start by entering the email address associated with your customer account. |
| Verify Your Identity | Shopify will send a secure verification code to your email address. |
| Access Your Account | Enter the verification code to securely sign in and access your account. |
This passwordless login system reduces security risks while making it easier to access your account.
What happens to my existing account?
In most cases, your customer information remains associated with the same email address you previously used.
When you log in using the new account system for the first time:
- Use the same email address that was associated with your existing account.
- Shopify will send a verification code to your email.
- Once verified, you will gain access to your account and previous order information.
You do not normally need to create a completely new account if your email address already exists in our customer records.
